I was part of L Architects team that was awarded an honorably mention in Vartiossari urban planning competition.
Our proposal seek to avoid building yet another suburb in this beautiful island in the eastern part of Helsinki. We cluster the new development in the central valley. Some mid-rise buildings are located close to the tram station, while building density and hight decreases towards the sea.
The centre public area is a continuous surface that blur the hierarchy between private and public, street and square, car and pedestrian. Every housing typology hosts some shared spaces, to provide more services and social interaction.
We developed an energy strategy for the housing blocks to run on renewable energy for most of the time, aiming at reach the target of a nearly Zero Energy Building.
