I was part of L Architects team that won the Kokkola’s railway station block competition.
Kokkola is a small old town in the western coast of Finland. Our winning proposal bring new life to the area around the railway station.
The former bus station area is to be developed into an urban block of ca 34.000 sqm. Our aim was to create a dense city block that completes and enhances the existing scale and city structure. The masses are broken down by using different materials, heights and depths, echoing the old town wooden blocks.
The program includes housing, shopping centre, hotel and event centre. A parking house is placed in the middle, marking two courtyards, one private and one public.
