KPMG competition (2011)
Office building for KPMG company
Competition entry by CEJ Oy
The site is in a crucial Helsinki’s spot: its nieghbours are the neoclassic Parlament plus its recent addition, Aalto’s Finlandia Talo and the park of Töölönlahti, the glass cube of Sanomatalo, the railways and a bunch of heterogeneous new buildings that will be built during the next years. In this “orchestra” of architectures, CEJ proposal decided to play the “piano”, meaning a solid and effective base (and not another primadonna). The layout maximize the office spaces, while much attention is given to the façades. The building engages the surroundings with a dynamic striped façade made out of wood towards the city and the park and out glass towards the railways. Moreover, the façades facing south host a solar chimney: this and other sustainable features help the building to reach a potential LEED Gold certification.
