AAA architetticercasi (2010)
AAA architetticercasi, under 35 competition, is held by cooperative Confcooperative and real estate developer EuroMilano.
Project with arch. Thomas Odorico and Architecture53seven.
The competition area is nowadays a flat green field. It lies on the a corner of the Cascina Merlata (mixed-use district) master plan. Starting from the context, the project warps in respect of the old Cascina Merlata buildings (now abandoned but will-be Art Centre), opens up to the landscape (a park/cemetery up north) and grows from it with two terraced housing blocks. The space in-between is defined by different levels of permeability and accessibility: big and small courts, panoramic square and playgrounds, private and public activities. Seamless integration of sustainable features is of paramount importance, i.e. the terraces’ rails are solar vacuum tubes to provide RE heating system. Or the big semipublic terraces, that are meeting places, kitchen gardens but also an effective way to reduce the heat island effect.
